SG Zoot Suit – a Gibson guitar with a Finnish twist?

29. Dezember 2009

I have been to an exhibition of Tapio Wirkkala’s (1915 – 1985) works.

Looking at Wirkkala’s statues (made from birch plywood), I couldn’t help but wonder whether Gibson’s designers haven’t been inspired by him when they designed their Zoot Suit SG, which is made from very similar material. The main difference here is the fact that Gibson’s material has coloured layers in-between the wood-coloured ones.

Are Gibson nuts? Or is it the dreaded lysergic ;-)
